We Can Dance

Vodpod videos no longer available.

It’s absolutely amazing that I have gone over 150 blog posts without featuring this video. As someone who has performed the Safety Dance in my car on several occasions, I can vouch for it’s inherent greatness.  Men Without Hats hailed from Montreal, despite the Medieval Europe theme of this video, and lead singer Ivan Doroschuk’s almost Vigo the Carpathian-like appearance.  I’m not sure what first attracted me to this bit of 80’s synthpop magic.  It could be the catchy tune, the ridiculous lyrics, or perhaps this over-the-top video.  The song did make it to number 4 on the Billboard Charts and was an international hit. Quite the achievement for the Montrealers.

The band’s only other hit song was Pop Goes the World which is among the most playful synthpop songs ever written. It pretty much sums up a genre and era of music perfectly.

I don’t have much else to say about this video I just want you to watch and enjoy it.  This is one of my guilty pleasures.  If you re interested in the latest bit of Men Without Hats news (circa 2003) check out their website.
