Tractor Cake“Gee what is this Peter, you have exams so you bribe us with a picture of a tractor cake?” Why yes that is the case. I was at a birthday party this weekend, and as is my family custom I provided a delicious and creative after party snack.  This is the tractor cake before I added headlights, a candle for a smoke stack, and some chocolate logs. It’s Allis-Chalmers orange because that is apparently important to the recepient, a 65 year old farmer.  If you want to know how I did all this drop me a line and I’ll go into detail.

Banana CookiesI haven’t posted a recipe in a long time, and this one is an all-time favourite.  If you’ve got some aging bananas, forget the banana bread, give these cookies a whirl.  You will never go back!

Banana Chocolate Chip Softies

1 1/4 cups flour

1 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/3 cup butter or margarine

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 ripe medium banana mashed

1 large egg

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 F. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl.  Beat butter, sugar and brown sugar in a large bowl at medium speed until light and fluffy.  Beat in banana, egg and vanilla. Add flour mixture. Beat at low speed until well blended. Stir in chips and walnuts with mixing spoon (dough will be soft).  Drop rounded spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart. Bake 9-11 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Let stand on cookie sheets for 2 minutes.  Remove to wire racks, cool completely. Store tightly covered at room temperature. Note: these cookies do not freeze well.
